If God made Adam and Eve beautiful and perfect, why do we see people with different skin colours, and also with defects?

Something is termed ‘beautiful’ if it reflects God’s own beauty and goodness. Everything God created is beautiful. This includes man and woman, animals and plants, mountains and rivers. Witnessing them evoke a sense of wonder in us and we are immediately drawn to God the omnipotent creator.

Beauty therefore is the divine nature in the creation. But unfortunately we recognise beauty as that which confirms to our own idea of beauty. All of us have individually developed a set of criteria to define beauty. That is why what is beautiful to me is not beautiful to another. This is applies to my choice of people, their body, features, objects, places etc. That’s why we often hear the untrue statement “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”.

Man received their skin tones according to the factors surrounding the places on earth he chose to live. Those in the cold regions tend to have lighter skin and those in hotter regions darker skin.

Is darker skin ugly? Answer is no. All skin tones are equally unique and beautiful.

Now why are some people born with defects? We know that God created Adam and Eve with a perfect soul and body. The so called defects that we witness in humanity appeared after the original harmony man had with God, fellow beings and with nature was disrupted.

Yet a child born with a defect is as perfect as anyone else before God. His value and dignity is the same as anyone else. At resurrection everyone will be restored.

God is not responsible for the maladies on humanity. We alone are responsible for it. But God does not abandon us. He accepted our mistakes as his own because He is our Father and He loves us infinitely. He sent his only son to liberate us from the tyranny of selfishness and sin. God restored humanity in his son. Those who accept Jesus the Saviour will live in harmony within while on earth. And reach the ultimate harmony in heaven. In heaven there will be no more ugliness, no more defects, no more hate, no more pain – only love. The perfect world will come when there is no more sin and that place is heaven we await.
