What is the meaning of the word ‘Danaha’ and why is it celebrated?
The Syriac word ‘Danaha’ means Sunrise or Dawn. The feast of Danaha is celebrated to commemorate the Baptism of Jesus in the river Jordan. During the baptism of Jesus, the heaven opened and God the Father manifested himself and declared to the whole humanity that Jesus was His beloved Son. The Holy Spirit in form of a dove descended upon Jesus. Present at this moment was the three persons of the Holy Trinity. This event also marked the beginning of Jesus’ public ministry. It was a revelation to the whole world that the ‘Great Light’ they waited for has come. This feast is also known as Epiphany or Theophany.
