I have seen miracles in other religions. How is it possible when they are not worshiping the only true God?

It is not surprising that there are miracles not only in many other religions, but even among those who do not believe or even acknowledge God. God is the creator and Father of all the peoples of the world and loves each person dearly. He sent His only Son to reveal His love so that whoever knows the Son also knows the Father. (John 14:9) It was this Son who established the Catholic Church, so of course we believe that the fullness of truth is here and there is not a better path that we should take ourselves or suggest to others.

That being said, God is not limited to the Church and allows all the peoples and religions of the world many good things. In the Nostra Aetate, the Declaration on the Relation of the Church with Non-Christian Religions of the Second Vatican Council, the Church states: “The Catholic Church rejects nothing that is true and holy in these religions. She regards with sincere reverence those ways of conduct and of life, those precepts and teachings which, though differing in many aspects from the ones she holds and sets forth, nonetheless often reflect a ray of that Truth which enlightens all men. Indeed, she proclaims, and ever must proclaim Christ “the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6), in whom men may find the fullness of religious life, in whom God has reconciled all things to Himself.”

Miracles and healings are very needed and important, yet only point to something even more necessary and important: to know who we are, our purpose and that we are loved…in short holiness. For this, of course, we would not want to choose for ourselves nor suggest to others anything except what the Son of God, Jesus, Himself has given us.

I assume a little analogy would help here. Imagine a father has a few children and one of them is living away in ignorance of him. Or maybe this separated child has heard about dad but do not wish to have anything to do with him. What do you think? the attitude or the situation of this child will stop the father from loving and providing for this child? It is quite possible that the child does not recognise the father’s care and providence and may even attribute it to someone else.

God the father’s love and mercy is not limited to children already returned or already home but equally available to those who remain separated. The task of reconciling the separated children to the father and the household is the task entrusted to us who are already home.

The everyday miracles are mere pointers to the possibility of a much bigger miracle called eternal life which God desires to share with all his children.

It’s appreciable that “The Catholic Church rejects nothing that is true and holy in these religions.” Someone has rightfully said, “Humanity is the greatest of all religions” And I believe God also does miracles in the lives of Atheists who may not believe in GOD but are doing the will of GOD as good human beings, like not committing any sinful activities.

      Hi Gilbert,
Thank you again for your comment. Our hearts beating and us breathing are also miracles. God protects and provides for even the evil and wickedest of people too. He lets the sun and rain fall on everyone (Mathew 5:45). Miracles are not limited to those who live a saintly life. In fact saints do not need or look for miracles. I wish to differ on the statement “Humanity is the greatest of all religions”. Humanity cannot be a religion. Religion is defined as ‘the way or a system by which humanity worships God’. The will of God is that we know him and be joined to Him in worship. Now with regards to atheists, when an one chooses not to acknowledge God, he is not only being obstinate despite the apparent revelation in Jesus Christ but he also chooses to be ungrateful for the gratuitous divine provisions he is enjoying.
