Why did God create man?

God created man out of His endless and selfless love. He created us to know Him, love Him, serve Him, and ultimately be happy with Him forever.

God did not create us because He was lonely or because He needed someone to work for Him. The life and communion shared by the three Persons of the Triune God is already complete and perfect. God lacks nothing.

God freely created us out of love and willed each of us for our own sake. Every human person has a unique dignity and worth in the eyes of God. We are not merely a means to accomplish something else. At the same time, we were created for God Himself—to share in His divine life and His endless joy. Our deepest fulfillment is found in communion with Him.

We are the pinnacle of God’s visible creation, created in His image and likeness and entrusted with the care of His creation.

Psalm 8:4–6 beautifully expresses the dignity God has given to humanity:

Psalm 8:4-6 says “What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet”
